[it's birthday time! Axel is 19 years old today, and while that's not considered a milestone age much of anywhere, it's still a birthday and he's still celebrating it. the first part of the day was probably spent with Kai and his older self, but now it's approaching sunset and he's taking a short break to text lil' Kairi. he's been busy loading up the wagon/cart that attaches to Kai's bike, with firewood, food, a sleeping bag, and an extremely compressed little pop-up tent that he'll never get to collapse again and will probably just leave behind tomorrow.

"So how about that Agrabah campout we talked about? 2nite?"

he'll go regardless, and if Kairi's not up for it tonight they'll go some other time, but.]

[ Kairi's had a busy, early day today. She baked four batches of cookies and finished two cakes, with the help of Ienzo's Kairi, and that's the only way to explain why he wouldn't have seen her by now. But also, it makes sense. Probably she's had time to drop them off by now, so for a rundown:

Maple bacon cookies for the oldest Axel, and a hug, and one of Kairi's signature homemade birthday cards. Candied bacon chocolate chip cookies for the middle Axel and two hugs (and one intended for Hachibi because she's there) and another birthday card and probably a kiss on the cheek.

She was about to pack up and head over to this Axel's place with good tidings and birthday things, so the text is extremely well-timed. It only takes her a couple minutes to respond.

"Yes!! Let me tell Ienzo and pack up and then I'll come over? Or I can meet you on the way ☀️🏕️" ]

[nooooooo Kairi's the best! i dunno where Agrabah is in relation to anything else at this point.

"We can meet at the door! I'll wait for u there, no rush 👍"

since he's basically all packed and everything, this gives him at least ten more minutes to be bullied by his older self before he absolutely has to go. ("remember to put like three blankets down if you're gonna do the thing, you don't want sand on your junk!")]

[ "Okay! I won't be long! 🧳✨"

Indeed, she'll take about fifteen minutes to get ready and pack up her things, whilst expertly dodging Ienzo's Concerned Face. She doesn't have time or need for any equally concerned Conversations. It'll be on the longer side of twenty minutes before she rolls up, with her own small wagon necessary for transport that probably won't be taken into the actual world. It has her backpack and two plastic boxes nestled inside a bigger tub, for structural safety. She's wearing shorts and a tanktop, with some bracelets and galaxy-print combat boots, and a matching space-themed scarf.

She smells like baked goods, meat, and probably everyone she's hugged today. (It's a lot, like usual.) ]

[he'll be sitting on the ground by the door when she arrives, messing around on his phone next to the bike and wagon he arrived with. he's also in shorts and a t-shirt, and sandals that he'll be kicking off as soon as there's sand to walk on. his own wagon is precarious, with way too much stuff in it staying in place through willpower alone.]

[ Kairi brightens up (even more than her default) and grins big, although her eyebrows are raised in cheerful surprise. She'll stop when they're next to each other, and bend down to look at him closer to eye-level. Not that she has to bend far, with the height difference. ]

You have so much stuff! What're you going to do with all that? Is it all food?

Nah, there's firewood under there, and a tent in case it gets windy, although I guess we could just go in one of the houses, like if a sandstorm hit or something. That's not as fun though.

[gosh. she's so cute he can't stand it!!!! and oof, gonna stand up now, watch your head.]

Sounds dangerous. Is there anything else we need to bring?

[ She moves back when Axel moves to stand, and so she can eye up the stuff on the wagon to figure out what's there. When he is standing fully though, she's going to step forward again to give him a hug. ]

[he's gonna lift her off her feet returning the hug, like middlexel does. without having worked out the details of how the ongoing date from last year ends and if there have been other dates, he's still more comfortable doing that kind of thing now. holding hands with someone for like two hours straight and sharing ice cream and food helps a lot with that.]

Nope, I think we've got everything. Did you get grownups trying to tell you how sleepovers work, too?

[ ~~Time isn't real. There's no way that one was started over a year ago and I am actually shocked to realize this.~~ If Kairi had any say in it, they would've gone on more dates. But they were probably more of the same as their usual hangouts, with various foods eaten and cool places explored, just now with the added bonus of having a girl with a very obvious crush. Not like she's bothering to hide it, or that there would be any point in trying.

She squeals a little at leaving the ground, and might've given him a kiss on the cheek if he hadn't asked that. Now she's rolling her eyes, whether he can see it or not. ]

Nope. I was too busy packing, obviously.

[ That's Kairispeak for 'I ran away before they could try'. ]

Not like I've never had a sleepover in a world before. Who got on your case?

[so they've been on more casual dates and probably there's been additional smooching. he sets her down and makes a horrible face before going to the bike so he can walk it and the wagon into Agrabah to wherever they decide to camp.]

Older me, but he was just giving me a hard time because he could. D'you wanna try and add your stuff to mine here, so you don't have to take your wagon in?

[ Smooching yes. Almost certainly Kairi's fault, each time. ]

Oh! Yeah, that works. I figured I would just carry them, since I didn't know how much stuff you'd have.

[ Kairi bounces back over to her own wagon and picks up her backpack to slip on (it's definitely galaxy colors, with a bunch of cute keychains clipped on) and lift up one of the boxes. Or, well, she starts to, then she straightens up again and points to them. ]

Do you want one of these now, or later?

[meanwhile the two older versions of Axel are standing by like "no, he's shown zero interest in boys, it's so weird" and that maybe all three of them are just Kai(ri)sexual. this one perks up, because food, but. can he take anything and put it on the pile for her, he wants to help.]

Nah, I'll wait until we're settled. It smells really good though!

Really? Your willpower must be getting stronger.

[ She'll pick up one of the boxes and then sort of nudge a nod at the other one, to indicate he can pick it up and transfer it. They're not heavy boxes, and it should smell like lots of sugar. ]

[the only thing better than sugar is meat, and he can't wait to see what's in here. he'll grab the other box and nudge some things on his wagon out of the way so there's a place to set it down where it won't fall off.]

Not really, I just wanna get comfy and settled before I start eating.

You're right, that makes more sense. Get things ready first so you can be lazy later.

[ Here, she's holding out the other box for him to take and find a place for. Kairi has the backpack covered. ]

Yep. So I guess you've been busy baking today, for all three of us?

[if he were a little younger and stupider, he'd probably suggest something like Kairi holding everything in place by sort of laying on top of it all. but he's pretty sure this is stable enough to get where they're going. at least he doesn't mind sand in his baked goods? looks like he's ready to head in now, anyway.]

I baked some stuff last night too.

[ So, yes, she has been busy baking and creating birthday festivities. Also let's say the non-sugary box is actually a small cooler, because we want no one here to have to deal with the effects of food poisoning, super-healing or not. ]

[yeah that doesn't sound like fun. Axel brought a little cooler of his own, it's under all the other stuff somewhere, because coldish drinks by a bonfire are :okhand:. here we go, he sort of has to walk sideways with the bike so he can keep an eye on the horrible pile he's created in the wagon, but it's more stable than it looks. in we go!]

Kai says I don't know how to plan ahead, since I only decided like two hours ago that I wanted to do this today.

I like that though. And this place is the best way to be like that, you know?

[ Not like Radiant Garden or the Islands or other worlds where you have obligations and consequences for sudden spur of the moment decisions. Also Kairi's gonna step away from Axel and over to the opposite side of the bike, just so she can catch anything that might slide. ]

Yeah. Oh, thanks. So I brought a bunch of stuff we can cook over the fire, including stuff for s'mores!

[it's unfortunate that because of his metabolism, he can't just gorge on sugary stuff and nothing else. he actually has to eat real food on a regular basis. :'( ]

[ She squeals a little, hands clapping together at her chest. ]

It wouldn't be a real sleepover without s'mores. Did you bring the really big marshmallows?

One bag for each of us! This way hopefully we won't run out. I mean, we will, but not super fast.

[woof, even he can tell it's pretty hot in here, since the sun's not quite down yet and it's August. good thing Kai was smart and told him to put the chocolate in the cooler with the drinks.]

[ That is very smart, and Kairi will be impressed later when the chocolate isn't all melty. She has a water bottle hooked onto one side of her backpack (it's glittery and pink) and more in her backpack, with some other things. ]

...yeah. Where should we camp? We could carry stuff up to one of the rooftops, or go outside the walls, I guess.

[he actually brought water too, along with juice and some soda because junk food. it's too bad Agrabah doesn't have a supermarket.]

Hmmm... I like the rooftop idea. We'd be able to see a lot, and it'll be easier if we get a sandstorm.

[ Although she'd also be fine being out past the walls, too. There would be less to focus on, though. Kairi's digging into her pockets for some cute star barettes. Her hair's getting longer, and it is very hot in Agrabah. ]
